Post 5: Pier 39 at Fisherman's Wharf --> Dreyer's Ice Cream

After lunch at Scoma's, we were all feeling a bit warmer and ready to venture outside. Still overcast skies though but thankfully no rain. Pretty packed with tourists as we walked down Fisherman's Wharf. Lots of gift shops, street performers, and various things to see along the way to Pier 39. I can imagine how nice it would be to walk around on a warm sunny day. Too bad =( It's okay, it just makes me that much more determined to go back to San Francisco in the near future.

This post will mostly consist of some pictures I took at Fisherman's Wharf but will also include a little snack I got at Pier 39: Dreyer's Ice Cream. I used to have Dreyer's when I was in Hong Kong (before I immigrated to Canada) and since Canada doesn't carry Dreyer's Ice Cream I was excited to see it at the Pier. Although I was super full from my ahi tuna sandwhich, I needed to get it, at the cost of possibly not having an appetite for dinner.

Along the way to Pier 39, which is practically the opposite end of where we had lunch, there were a few places that I stopped by. One of them is this chocolate / candy store. Loved the chandeliers in there, made the place so "enchanting" and "magical" =)

Also worth noting is Alcatraz Island (my camera at full zoom here). They have tours going there.

Pier 39 is an attraction in itself at Fisherman's Wharf with restaurants, events / festivities, and shopping.

Me and a 2,000 lb Big Noodle, part of the largest KRAFT Macaroni & Cheese integrated marketing campaign ever, "You Know You Love It". Ironically, can't say I love it because I've never had Kraft Macaroni & Cheese before.

There were a ridiculous amount of snacks and restaurants at Pier 39. My sister-in-law also found a few places that had clam chowder in bread bowls here. Oh well, next time! Anyway, here are just a FEW of the food stuff you will find:

Crepes - A bit out of place IMO.

Bubba Gump - One of the many restaurants there.

Fudge - So many candy / fudge stores.

Wines - The one and only wine store.

There was an enormous merry-go-round in the middle. A lot of kids stuff to do at this area.

I like the standing crab. Cute. Wish I had one in my room. That is all.

Finally. Dreyer's. There were a few other ice cream shops at Pier 39 but it was Dreyer's that attracted everybody. Not sure how popular they are in the U.S., but all I cared about was how I loved it when I was little.

In my opinion, Dreyer's is way better than Baskin Robbins. They are more the same level as Haagen-Dazs (not surprising since both Dreyer's and Haagen-Dazs are part of the Nestlé family). Dreyer's are also marketed as Edy's in other countries.

I had the Cookies and Cream (left) and my brother had the Expresso Chip (right) both with chocolate waffle cones. It totally hit the spot for both of us; they tasted just as good as when we had it many years ago. Also impressed with the plastic holder that would hold the drippings. Every ice cream place should have it.
